Driver/ Warehouse Assistant

Job Description

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Safe Operation of Company Assigned Vehicles:

1. Delivery trucks are driven with the utmost care and attention
2. No alcohol is consumed during working hours or whilst driving company vehicles.
3. Any accidents with or damage to delivery vehicles are reported to the Manager/
4. Supervisor immediately and in writing within 24 hours of occurrence.
5. Any operational problems encountered whilst driving the vehicle (e.g. breakdowns, loss of brakes, strange noises, etc.) are reported to the Manager/ Supervisor immediately.
6. Delivery trucks are used solely for company purposes unless specific prior permission is obtained from Senior Management.

Carry out Required Maintenance Checks to the Vehicle:

1. Ensure regular vehicle maintenance is performed as per service schedule
2. Carry out routine pre-travel and maintenance checks are made systems as per checklist document and ensure checklists are filed with appropriate personnel and all other service and repair records are appropriately maintained.

1. Tool kits and spares are checked daily and any missing items are reported immediately to the Manager/ Supervisor.
2. Ensure prompt reporting of all vehicles that are not performing in accordance with safe operating standards.
3. Ensure vehicles are washed at least once per week and that all vehicles and cargo, so assigned, remain clean and meet all sound operating standards.
4. Thermometers are calibrated at the start of each day and temperatures are documented and the temperature of all frozen and refrigerated products are documented in accordance with stated procedures.
5. Assist with the loading and off-loading of delivery trucks

Assist with the Delivery of Goods and Interact Directly with Restaurant Personnel:

1. Restaurants are served in a polite and courteous manner
2. All orders are checked when loading the truck, ensuring that orders are picked correctly with regards to weight/ size/ description and product quality.
3. Goods are delivered to customers in good condition.
4. Restaurants sign delivery copies for receipt of goods.
5. Checks are carried out to ensure that only goods on the invoices are delivered.
6. Empty lugs must be collected at all restaurant locations and placed in the chicken chiller.

Assist in Stacking and Storing Stock in the Warehouse/ Freezers:

1. Low/ ground level stock is stacked and stored
2. Oldest stock is accessible for selection before new stock (FIFO)
3. Assist the Commissary with the packing and labeling of goods in the chiller
4. All boxes opened are resealed

Assist in Ensuring that Products are Received in Stock from Suppliers in a timely manner:

1. Containers are off-loaded in an efficient and timely manner
2. Off-loading is done with the utmost care and attention to avoid breakage and other
3. damage

Participate in Performance Appraisal and any Company Related Training Activities

1. Full and active participation in the performance review process
2. All recommended training sessions are attended, and participation is active.
3. Product display areas are attractive, clean and organized
4. Safety rules are followed and precautions are always taken by all staff, especially when
5. operating vehicles

Ensure that the Working Environment is kept clean, tidy, aesthetically appealing and is in

good repair:

1. The work environment is kept within company standards, sanitary and clean
2. Aisles in warehouse/ freezers are kept clear of stock
3. Empty boxes and woodchips are disposed of in the garbage promptly and in according with company’s hygiene policy

1. Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Qualification and Experience

High School Diploma and valid drivers licence (minimum 10 tonne)

Minimum eight years’ experience in a similar capacity

No major accidents within past three (3) years

Current and valid Police Certificate
